Shelley Melanson
Shelley Melanson is a passionate feminist dedicated to supporting and participating in the social, economic, and political processes of change surrounding sexual and reproductive health and rights in Canada.
Prior to joining Canadians for Choice, Shelley served as the National Deputy Chairperson of the Canadian Federation of Students, a two-year term as the Ontario Chairperson for the Canadian Federation of Students, and prior to this a one-year term as the Canadian Federation of Students’ National Women’s Representative.
During her time as Ontario Chairperson, Shelley coordinated the provincial-wide “Drop Fees” campaign, which lobbied the government of Ontario to increase funding for and eliminate financial barriers to post-secondary education. As part of the campaign, Shelley coordinated a province-wide activist assembly, the collection of over 150,000 signed petitions in support of the campaign’s goals and two successful province-wide “Days of Action”.
In her role as the National Women’s Representative, Shelley helped to develop a pro-choice organizing kit designed to educate students about their sexual and reproductive health, and empower them to challenge the presence of anti-choice organizations on their campuses.
